A pelican perched on one of the fence posts on the pier at Santa Cruz. The autofocus pre-flashes startled him and he leapt into the air.

We were up at dawn (well 9 o’clock) to zip off to Bristol to help Malcolm step his mast. We had matching leathermans (leathermen?) on our belts, we were like ready.

To no avail though, the boat, during the night, had mysteriously taken on water.

A lot of water…

Knee deep even.

So one tortured MX8 clutch later it was out of the water and being bailed.
